Richard is well known in Greytown having taught at Kuranui College for 37 years. He has incredible background in theatre and GLT is delighted Richard will direct this 100th Anniversary production. Richard says of the play:
“Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. For over four centuries we have witnessed the themes of power, ambition, deceit and bloody murder on stage.
Now imagine if Abbott and Costello, the Marx Brothers, the 3 Stooges and Monty Python staged it. You will end up with something like Scots on the Rocks by Richard Nathan.
Scots on the Rocks is a combination of jokes, puns and slapstick that sketch the outline of the plot in a reverse of the original. It is a wonderful parody of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” changing the tragic tone to comedy.
You will recognise the characters, you will recognise the plot, you will recognise (some of) the lines but you will see Macbeth as never before in Nathan’s, Scots on the Rocks. An hilarious show not to be missed!”
